The Hive

Provision

The Hive is a small classroom provision where children with complex needs can be offered a safe, welcoming, nurturing and focused learning environment.  Its key focus is around making requests and building fundamental communication skills that will allow children to develop communication.  In The Hive we understand that not all communication is spoken, and our staff work to ensure that children are being heard through their chosen form of communication and help them to develop new skills.

The Hive offers a rich range of opportunities for children to develop independence and build confidence and sense of achievement in a tailored, child centred environment.

Children are supported through a structured timetable and predictable routine to support their needs.  We understand in The Hive that all children are unique, and we build strong relationships with both the children and their families to support them in their learning journey.

How do we do this?

* We keep strong routines, and daily timetables are predictable and familiar

* Use visuals to support communication across the classroom and beyond

* Children complete simple, errorless tasks to develop independence which have a clear 'finish' to build sense of completion and pride

* We ensure children feel safe in our care

* We take time to listen and understand that all behaviour is communication

* We provide a rich environment which is tailored to learners needs through engaging activities, sensory rich experiences

* We use intensive interaction to build on communication
